Father and Son and Sister Unite!

Last weekend brought Marcius' Dad and sister Cassandra to DC. Lots of laughter, good food, drumming and tourist-ing - were had!
Here is a pic from Frederick Douglass House and National Park in Southeast DC. FD was a biracial child born into slavery who escaped, learned to read and worked with Lincoln and others to abolish slavery. Over time he grew to be the most wealthy and influential African American in the 1800s working for the US Government. We visited his restored home.

Marcius also had a busy week heading up to Ottawa as a keynote speaker at a optics conference. I have been busy finishing up writing (well, mostly editing) on-line curriculum for a course that I used to teach face-to-face at OISE. Hopefully I don't have too many revisions!

We have another friend, Lucian, passing through this week and then we are off to New Orleans for our 5th wedding anniversary. Can you believe it has been that long?

Happy long weekend to all of you in Canada! (We don't get ours until next week!)

April Showers... Bring Visitors!!!

Marcius and I have finished off April with a bang! We had friends and family with us every weekend!
The order:
1. My brother Sean.
2. Our friend Kellie.
3. The Delamere Clan (which included a trip from the Easter Bunny)
4. Our friend Elizabeth who made it all the way down from Edmonton.

Thanks to all of you for giving us a great excuse to hit the Smithsonian, eat out nice meals, head to the baseball game and shopping! Sean and Kellie got the worst of the April showers, the Delamere's got soaked and then sunburned and Elizabeth had practically perfect weather (hence the trip to the baseball game... and some frisbee in the park... and a hike in Virginia... and no need to go shopping to avoid the rain..smile...)

In other news... Marcius went to Marine day last week where he and 400 other Congressional Staffers whet to Quantico Naval Base for the day where they rode in tanks, helicopters, fired all possible firearms, watched live fire exercises, and checked out all the high tech plane in an air show - he came home ready to enlist and with shell casings to put on display (seriously? - this would destroy our peace keeping, gun control image). Not to worry about Marcius deploying - you have to be a citizen to serve - phew!

Happy Election Day Canada! (Yes - we did vote! - did you?)
